Remember to Move!
Making a commitment to lose weight and get in shape doesn’t necessarily require you to be able to run a marathon or lift a car when you’re finished. The point is to get your body accustomed to frequent physical activity, which will not only help you lose weight but live healthier as well.
Any amount of exercise is good no matter how much weight you lose. At least that’s what the authors of Move Yourself: The Cooper Clinic Medical Director's Guide to All the Healing Benefits of Exercise (Even a Little) argue in their book. That’s because any activity that you do that burns visceral fat—the deadly abdominal fat that can surround your internal organs—can greatly decrease your chances of getting heart disease, Alzheimer’s, diabetes or cancer.
Even if you don’t lose weight as a result of adding exercise to your day, you’re still burning enough of that deadly fat through activities like walking, bicycling, jogging and swimming. So don’t beat yourself up if you’re not getting in an hour of exercise every day of the week—just 30 minutes a day on most days is enough to do the trick. [USA Today]
