Meditate for Kindness

It seems more and more news about the benefits of meditation are coming out almost every day. The latest study, published in the March 26 issue of Public Library of Science One, claims that meditating on things like kindness and compassion results in measurable changes in the brain to make a person feel more of these emotions.

Researchers compared the brain activity of Tibetan monks, who have meditated most of their lives, and ordinary people who only recently learned basic meditation. Both showed increased brain activity in areas linked to empathy. Experts hope to use this research to propel the use of meditation in other settings, such as treating depression or preventing bullying or violence.  [U.S. News & World Report]
