God Loves a Stray
St. Francis of Assisi said “If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men.” While bringing home a stray animal is considered unwise by some, but to the Pope, it’s a way of life.
Before he became His Holiness, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger had many cats at his home in Germany. A neighbor cat even “wrote” a book (with help from an Italian journalist, of course) about the Pope entitled Joseph and Chico: The Life of Pope Benedict XVI as Told by a Cat.
When he moved into his papal home, Ratzinger had to leave behind two pet cats. It seems that someone who loves creatures so much should be allowed to keep them. Would you live somewhere that you couldn’t bring your sweet pet ? [The New York Times]
