Shelter Pets vs. Bred Pets

One of the challenging questions that comes up when deciding to adopt a pet is whether you should go to your local shelter or get an animal from a breeder. Proponents of shelter adoption say that animals are treated more humanely at a shelter.

One of those proponents is Oprah Winfrey, who will air a special about dogs today in memory of her beloved pup Sophie, who died last month. Sophie was Winfrey’s loyal companion for 13 years. After seeing how some dogs are treated by certain breeders, Oprah says that she’ll only adopt from a shelter from now on.

Whether you’re getting a dog, cat or any other animal, make sure you do all your research about where its coming from before you take him home. [Yahoo! News]
