A Simple Change Can Make all the Difference
In today’s 24/7 world, we all seem to be rushing from one event to the next. Take your day-to-day activities—wake up, hurry to work, speed through your morning emails, finalize meeting notes, gobble down lunch, give an hour presentation in the 30 minutes allotted, head home, throw together a quick meal and get ready for the next day. What’s missing? Down time—everyone needs it. And many companies are taking note—they are even bringing meditating experts for lunchtime meditation sessions and holding yoga classes for employees.
No this isn’t an April Fool’s Day joke—it’s a real trend. Check out this article in the New York Post, which features Mark Thornton, author of Meditating in a New York Minute and the writer behind the First30Days of Meditating. We were fortunate enough to have Mark hold a lunchtime mediation session with First30Days and the entire team could really see the benefits. We are a crazy start up over here, so learning to handle the stress, ups, downs and unpredictable events is a necessary skill for all of us.
I can personally attest to the benefits of meditating. I have long been a believer in taking some time each day to find your center. It’s how I start everyday—with 20 to 30 minutes of quiet time with myself. I did an interview yesterday for BusinessWeek and even took a minute to sit and meditate in the chair with all the cameras on me, fully miked up- It helps! A few deep breaths, grounding, reconnecting to my center, saying a mantra…and then I was ready.
When you find things getting a bit out of control, take a moment to focus on your breath, clearing your mind. If you are looking for a way to get started, sign up for our meditating email tips.
