Baby Face

There may be a reason for the conventional wisdom that new dads don’t feel much of a connection while their partner is pregnant  but instead bond with their babies the first time they hold them.

A study from the University of Oxford found that a perfect tiny face can activate the fusiform gyrus (betcha didn’t learn that one in biology!), a mental organ that responds to the human face. In less than a second, a child’s face can trigger a sense of reward and good feeling. The researchers believe this means that we are all wired to respond positively to babies, and that for our response to be so quick means that baby love is innate.

So as you’re looking into those eyes, wondering how you can be feeling all that you are feeling, remember—it’s all in your head! [The Wall Street Journal]
