New Dad Cheat Sheet
Life doesn’t come with an instruction book. But for new dads in the UK, it does.
Certain hospitals in southern England have begun distributing pocket-size advice cards to new dads to help them prepare for the arrival of their baby. The cards contain information on where they can go for services such as paternity leave, as well as a checklist with such dad-tasks as readying the baby’s room and buying a cot.
These helpful cards are the result of a report by the Fatherhood Institute, which urges hospitals to get dads-to-be more involved in the activities directly before and after the birthing process. The cards also contain a web site link where fathers can find information on all aspects of pregnancy and parenthood from a dad’s perspective.
Perhaps this trend will sweep across the Atlantic soon. Would you as a new dad have liked to receive more information from the hospital about your role in the whole process, or do you feel that you had already done enough of your own homework that the card would have been unnecessary? What kind of information would you like to see on such a card in the States? [Portsmouth News]
