The Great Breast Debate

There’s been so much made this year of breastfeeding. Doing it in public—good or gross? What about supplementing with formula? Is the breast really best?

To tell the truth, we were sort of over the argument until we saw this post on Babble.com. Not because of the CDC report that more than 75% of moms do breastfeed, at least for a little while. Nor were we surprised by the fact that young and poor new moms  do it the least.

We were taken, mostly, by the comments by readers, who all seem to agree that breastfeeding is really a luxury and the reason it isn’t more widespread is that it takes time—and, as we all know these days, time is money. Young and poor moms can’t afford to breastfeed, because they have to go back to work, and often can't take the time at work to pump.

Let’s get some chatter going here—do you agree with the Babble commenters? Is breastfeeding the domain of the upper class?
