The Happy Office
Discounting sleeping hours, you probably spend the most time out of every weekday at work, so even though you look to many other aspects of life for happiness, it’s probably worth looking for some at the office. Also, being happy at work will affect how happy you are at home, because no matter how hard you try, work does come home with you.
Alexander Kjerulf is called the “Chief Happiness Officer” and penned the book Happy Hour is 9 to 5, a book about this very idea of being happier while on the clock. He believes getting there is “10% about the job and 90% about you.” Finding a job that suits your talents is key, but just realizing that you can and should look for satisfaction while working is also important. So many people never realize that it is possible to love your job.
Kjerulf takes some direction from Southwest Airlines, a company whose motto is, “Hire for attitude, train for skill.” They make happiness a priority, throwing parties to congratulate everyone on doing a good job and giving employees fair compensation and a healthy, fun working environment. How does your workplace rate on the happiness scale? [AOL Canada]
