Does your Med Sup offer any discount RX card you can use in the gap? If it does, check out the price with the card, but be sure to contact your Part D carrier to find out how to get credit for those drugs you purchase with the discount.
Also, double check with Mdicare to be sure your breathing drugs aren't covered under Part B.
PS: All of the other suggestions offered here today are also excellent!
I strongly suggest contacting your local Area Agency on Aging. As every State has different programs to assist the elderly, your local AoA will have folks who are well versed on the programs in your State.
Also, you may want to directly contact the pharmaceutical companies that manufacture your medication . They often have programs for people who find themselves "financially challenged".
The best of luck to you. Part D is better than nothing, but that Gap is a killer!
I know I tried to help my mother with this because she is on lots of different meds for her heart condition. She ended up getting supplemental insurance, I believe with AARP and she said she pays like $3 or $5 for many of her medications. She couldn't afford them otherwise.
We got some good advice from the people who run the local senior services group in her town. They see this all the time. See if there are organizations in your area that can point you in the right direction.
Wal-Mart has a list of prescription meds that you can buy for $5.00. Don't know if what you need is on the list, but maybe some of it might be.
Sorry I don't have more answers -- maybe someone else will.
Take care!
