An Egg-o for Preggo
You’ve heard that you are what you eat—now, a study reveals your baby might be as too (well, not literally, though we’re sure you’ve had weird pregnancy dreams about delivering a canteloupe.)
Here’s the story: eating breakfast may determine whether you have a boy or a girl. According to scientists at Oxford and Exeter Universities, 60% of women who ate high-energy breakfasts gave birth to sons. Those who skipped out on breakfast only had a 43% chance of having a boy.
What’s surprising, of course, is that its long been said that the male sperm is what determines gender. If it’s true that mom’s diet plays a role, it could be due to the fact that high glucose levels improve the growth of male embryos. A well-fed mom would have higher glucose than one who skips breakfast.
Either way, eating a healthy diet containing a good variety of key vitamins and minerals like potassium, vitamin C, vitamin B12 and calcium is critical to a healthy pregnancy. Start everyday with a healthy breakfast so that your baby gets what he—or she!—needs too. [New York Post]
