Surrogate Pregnancy

Tina Fey’s new movie “Baby Mama”  takes a jab at surrogate pregnancy by painting the surrogate as an uneducated, “white trash” young woman who’s in it for the money. It's a comedy, after all.

A recent article in Newsweek paints a much different picture. In most cases, surrogates are older, with families of their own. Some of the women work; others are military wives augmenting a husband’s salary. Though monetary compensation is part of the deal—surrogates are paid about $25,000—it’s less about the income and more focused on what one individual can give to a couple.

As any pregnant woman knows, having a baby isn’t easy. That goes double when you don’t get to take the little one home from the hospital.  What are your thoughts on surrogacy? [Newsweek]
