Beware the Melbourne Bitter

Beware the Melbourne Bitter

After your break up, you may be inclined to spend a couple of wild booze-fueled nights out on the town (not that we're advocating this behavior, but it happens). You're single again and it's time to celebrate.

However, one Australian man had a break up party that lasted a little too long. When local police arrested the construction worker on his seventh drunk driving charge he admitted to spending $1000 a week on beer.

His brand of choice—Melbourne Bitter—probably best described his situation. The man said his drinking habit had escalated after breaking up with his partner five years ago. His local magistrate ordered him not to so much as hold a drink in his hands for the next 12 months.

Adding insult to injury, the prosecutor even made fun of his choice of beverage. Apparently Melbourne Bitter is the Australian equivalent of Pabst Blue Ribbon.

''(That is) poor judgment on two counts there—drinking that much and drinking Melbourne Bitter,'' magistrate Vince Luppino was quoted as saying.

After a break up, you're especially vulnerable to falling into destructive behavior. Pay close attention to your drinking, smoking or gambling habits. You can even ask friends to help you out. If you notice that you're indulging more than you used to, this may be a sign of depression. Don't be afraid to ask for help, and by all means, stay away from Melbourne Bitter. [Reuters]

No stranger to this one. Drinking and other self destructive things definately does redirect our thinking in negative kind of way. The sooner we face our broken heart head on, the easier it is to move forward. One of the many problems of this pain reliever is that sooner or later we still have to feel the awful feelings of loss. If we fall prey to alcohol, we'll still have to feel the pain after we finsish our crying in the beer. The pain patiently waits. The sooner we began to work through our grieving the sooner we can go on with our lives.
