How to break up with a pseudo-friend?
There's this male "friend" i have, let's call him Jason, who was introduced to me by another friend, let's call her Lucy. Jason has sort of infiltrated my life. He's become good friends with my husband, but he treats my girlfriends (including Lucy) like crap and is just a general jerk. I don't consider him to be a close friend, so I didn't feel obligated to "have it out" and have a true friend breakup session. I just decided not to hang out with Jason or go to events where he is...sort of a passive-aggressive break up. However, now I'm feeling pressure from my friends (including Lucy) to go to these events, and they're getting upset when I say I don't want to go because Jason is there. If this is a person I'm not really terribly attached to, so i have to go to these events? And more, am I obligated to "have it out" with Jason even though I don't consider him to be a real "friend"??
I think you can still "have it out" but it doesn't necessarily have to be a scene. Just say that you don't agree with his behavior and that's that. Don't hang with him one on one and this seems like the kind of thing that will take care of itself on its own timeline.
