Golden Girl

For many people, the object of buying a home is to provide shelter for you and your family and perhaps to make a good investment at the same time. However, 93-year-old change champion Lorna Page says she bought her five-bedroom home in order to prevent her friends from living in nursing homes.

The native of Devon was 90 years old when she wrote a novel called A Dangerous Weakness. She didn't pursue its publication until her daughter-in-law discovered it and urged her to send it in. A publisher took interest and paid Page enough in royalties for her to purchase the home.

Page told the BBC that she hopes to buy more properties and keep more friends out of unfriendly institutions. Of course there are many assisted living facilities that provide excellent care, and Page seems to be more concerned with the social aspect. "They don't seem to talk to each other at all, they're just sort of there. That's not living."

Not only did this lovely lady publish a book after nine decades of life, but she's using the proceeds for a cause she believes in. Color us impressed! Do you know anyone who has opened their home to help others? [BBC]
