It's A Bird! It's A Plane! It's A...House?

It takes a lot to get the residents of Malibu, California to stop in their tracks. After all, the beachside town was the backdrop for Mel Gibson's drunken anti-Semitic rampage and for Pamela Anderson's, well, everyday life. However, the laid back residents will likely have something to openly gawk at when Francie Rehwald's "Wing House" is finally completed next year.

After years of battling 17 different government agencies and wading through endless paperwork, Rehwald's architect David Herz will finally begin work on the house that will be made entirely of recycled parts from a 747 jet airliner. Rehwald, a self-described hippie, isn't letting any bit of the $40,000 scraps go unused; the nose cone will be used for a meditation room, the first class lounge converted into a guest house, and the wings will make up the home's roof.

So why did she choose an airplane and not a shipping container, boxcar or an Escalade? "I wanted something that was sleek and the wings are very sleek," she told the Associated Press. "Although it's long there's a lot of curve to a wing." Rehwald may be pursuing an unusual dream, but she certainly stuck to her guns. It couldn't have been easy.
