The Gas Pump's Silver Lining
News reports about high gas prices and new car credit hassles may have you just about ready to throw your TV out the window. But wait, don’t do that…especially if it’s an HDTV. We come bearing good news.
Among the mess of complaints, at least one individual sees light at the end of this dark tunnel. Mike Jackson, the CEO of the dealership chain AutoNation, says that this gas hike has finally struck a nerve in the automobile industry. Big companies are taking the heat—less sales and a demand for a cheaper way to drive—and are finally ready to do something about it.
"For once we actually have viable alternatives and exciting technology that are really game changers," Jackson explains to The Wall Street Journal.
There is definitely something going on in the industry—from closing down truck factories to boosting up research on alternative fuels. Automakers and dealers have been going the extra mile with giveaways to save consumers cash on the road. Let’s hope they continue thinking in this green direction.
