Lots of folks are saying no to large supermarket chains in favor of locally grown (read fresher and healthier) products. But if you’re looking for the ultimate in freshness, take your gathering even closer to home—like your own backyard—and grow a few items of your own.
Yee-haw.
Not that you should transmutate into Mr. Green Jeans or anything. Depending on your home climate, start with one apple or orange tree and see how it goes. Or gopher up some of that award-winning grass and plant a small vegetable garden.
No yard to speak of? There must be some space on that rooftop garden for one tree or a few veggies. A window box filled with fresh herbs can fit anywhere, even in a small apartment.
A little hard work and you’ll have the freshest good eats imaginable (and a whole new appreciation for farmers).
SO true,I now have an avacado tree(keep the clean seed)in H2o until after germenination begins then plant bottom half,squach,pumpkins from seeds from the primary pumkin(by the front door)fromfall of 2007.Lemon,orange,grapefruit trees all about 2'(citrus seeds must be kept wet until exact minute of planting.You get in touch with that part that exists within yourself,it's my theraphy!!!
