Veggies on Vacay.
If you’re a vegetarian, finding decent grub on vacation is no easy task. Try to eat meatless at a “typical” restaurant and you’ll wind up with pasta or grilled cheese—and will you be having the Hoodsie or ice cream sandwich with that? And if you’re vegan (no animal products at all), good luck.
Fortunately, there are some decent online resources for tracking down vegetarian-friendly alternatives. Go to the International Vegetarian Union site or HappyCow’s Vegetarian Guide for lists of vegetarian dining options anywhere in the world. Ideally, check these sites first and then plan your itinerary around the best restaurants. Isn’t half the fun of vacationing eating out?
Even if you aren’t a vegetarian, expand your horizons and explore new dining options. It never hurts to fit in a healthy meal, especially on vacation.
I have found Lebonese and Israeli restaurants to have numerous and extremely tastey meatless meals. I'm not a vegetarian but I do find America's version of cooking with veggies to be extremely boring. Yet, I am likely to have a meatless meal at a middle eastern restaurant more often than a meat disk. It's all about the spices.
