What No One Tells You When You're Fired
Coping with a job loss goes well beyond the typical advice of updating your resume, leaning on your network of contacts and perhaps start a new hobby. Our Survival Guide to What No One Tells You When You're Fired offers you the coping tips you won’t necessarily hear from anyone else, such as:
- Accept that the next job you take may be a transitional one. It's OK to freelance or find part-time work until you find the perfect new position.
- Don’t justify or explain your story to everyone ad nauseam. It will only hold you back. Honor the experience as a life change that will make you stronger.
- Always frame things in the positive. Say things like, "I’m excited I'm back in the job market, so I can go after a job that I love." Always reach for a better thought, even if it feels unnatural.
