It's Not the Circumstances, It's Us

It's Not the Circumstances, It's Us

We tend to believe that if we just changed our life situation or became more successful—then, we'd be happy. But motivational speaker and life coach, Mike Robbins, invites us to imagine the positive energy we would free up if we stopped blaming our experience on external circumstances. What if we lived with a conscious awareness that we create our own reality?

He offers these suggestions for owning your experience of life:

1) Admit where you play victim and give away your power. Look at the areas of your life where you find the most pain and struggle. Without judging yourself, note where you're acting like a victim of circumstances, as if it's "happening to you." Be honest and specific.

2) Acknowledge, own, and express your underlying emotions. Victimhood is a means of avoiding something we don't want to take responsibility for our experience. Once we deal directly with the emotion(s) we're avoiding, much of the suffering and struggling go away.

3) Make a commitment to fully own your experience. Declare to yourself and to those close to you a willingness to take 100% responsibility for your experience of life. Commit to living life by design, not by default.

"...Living life by design...". Absolutely brilliant!

Lyfa Lee Zhure, the Professional "Chiller" here. One of the "front-line" concepts in my book is Lifestyle Creation. It's a completely "bass-ackwards" approach to designing the life you WANT to live (not "meant", "destined", or "deserve"). It's also NOT about money. Design a lifestyle that will make you happy NOW...then you can decide how to go about "sustaining" it.

As an example, I first created my present lifestyle over 10 years ago when I used to make $100K. 6 1/2 years ago, I was reduced to a quarter of that income. 3 1/2 years ago, I decided I was going to take control of my finances "once and for all"--by becoming a R.E. investor. Long story short, I presently have 3 foreclosures, 2 charge-offs, and a Chapter 7 on my record...

My point behind all this rambling boils down to this: despite all the financial turmoil I have endured over the years, I still sleep in EVERYDAY, play 3 hours of racquetball 5 days a week, lay out at the pool, and feast on gourmet meals. It's such a tough life. As I explain to all my friends and family: this lifestyle of mine is no accident; it was CREATED.

Thanks for reading. Inner Peace, Eternal Love, and Abundant Blessings I bid you! Until next time...
