Here's Your Guilt Antidote
If you want to get rid of the guilt you're feeling about something you did, about the kind of parent you are, about your weight, and so on, make an effort to forgive yourself. The quicker you let go of guilt—one of six "change demons" that tends to keep us stuck during change—the quicker you will be able to move forward.
When we hold onto guilt, continually beating ourselves up and wishing we had done things differently, we wind up locked in a prison of guilt. We need to remind ourselves that we can walk out of this prison at any time by fully forgiving ourselves for the past.
Not all guilt is bad. As part of our emotional guidance system, it can actually be a blessing when it sparks a change in our behavior. When guilt arises, feel it fully as part of the natural growing process, but then make the decision to replace it with a better emotion, forgiveness.
