Should I get Braces?
I'm nearly 30 years old and I'm contemplating getting braces to correct some crooked teeth I have on top. I'd love to get something like invisilign, but it's just not in my budget. I"m just worried that I'm going to look silly at my age with a mouth full of metal.
I got braces when I turned 30 and had them on for almost two years. It was one of the best things I did for myself. I was always very uneasy about my smile, and this was a great self-esteem boost. People thought I was crazy (including my parents), but once they saw the end result everyone agrees it was a smart move. Also, I met my husband while I had my braces, so it didn't hurt my love life at all!
I have been an orthodontic assistant in a very busy practice for the last 28 years...it is no big deal to get braces at ANY age...it is a health issue..you will smile with those crooked teeth the rest of your life and it will always bother you, or for about 2, or so, short years you will smile with braces, (use ceramic/clear ones if you choose)...doing something for you that will last the rest of your life!! It is an investment you will never regret, and use everyday of your life!! I Hope You Go For It!!
In making a choice like yours, look at the benefits and the draw backs. What do you expect to gain and is the cost worth it. Keep in mind and I quote "the best investment one can make is in themselves"
My niece had teeth like a cow catcher on a old train. She had them straightened. She went from attractive to gorgious. Good investment.
I was in my 30's when I got braces and it was the best investment that I've made. I never realized how much I smiled with my mouth closed prior to braces, and once the braces were on my teeth I couldn't stop smiling, metal and all. Fixing your teeth I believe is the number one beauty tip! You will look good, and feel so good smiling!
My dentist mentioned recently that the number of folks getting braces in their 30s and 40s is on the rise, and that she's never spoken when anyone who did it - who wasn't happy/thought it wasn't worth the trouble or money.
Why not embrace it and get some funky color braces? A lot of older people get braces these days, and it's sort of a cool thing at this point. You're doing a good thing for your teeth and your confidence. Be proud!
They have the ones that are clear/white now, and I think there are even "braces" that are like retainers, something to wear over the teeth. I would see what options there are that may be a little more subtle.
