Little Green Steps

Little Green Steps

Hey you, over there, headed out the door and about to forget your canvas shopping bag! Yeah we're talking to you. You may be thinking that your small effort of ditching your plastic bag doesn't really matter, but new research says it does, so go back inside and grab it!

The Wall Street Journal reports that the small steps Americans have been taking (such as ditching plastic, switching to low-flow toilets and using energy-efficient light bulbs) actually have the potential for creating a positive environmental impact, largely due to our unique consumer habits.

A study by McKinsey and Co. finds that we can cut 65% of the country's greenhouse-gas emissions by making our daily consumer habits a little less conspicuous. We might not have power over higher taxes or the economy, but we can make our voices heard and our footprints smaller with the purchases we choose to make. They may seem like small steps, but taken together, we can go a long way.

Oh wow! I had no idea all these little changes really were making a big difference! I mean, of course I hoped they were, but it's nice to see some real numbers behind it. I'll be extra dutiful about my canvas grocery bags and energy-efficient light bulbs now!
