Not-so-Great Expectations

Not-so-Great Expectations

Join my site! It's the greatest! No, over here! We have more singles! Online dating sites boast this-and-that, but do you really expect them to be lying? We sure hope not! Unfortunately, one site has busted the trust.

A group of consumers is suing a Scottsdale, Arizona-based dating service Great Expectations for Singles. Sure, it offered some terrific potential, but they failed to follow through with results. According to the Arizona Republic, here are some of the offenses alleged by the Arizona State Attorney General's Office:

*Misrepresented to consumers the overall number of participating members and members in certain age groups.

*Told consumers that two to three marriages occurred among members every month when it had no credible basis for such statements.

*Showed potential new members written profiles and photographs of people they said were Great Expectations members when many were not available for dating.

From these allegations, it appears that customers were misled into believing they would be dating a person their own age, and would also likely marry them in the near future. Total bummer and a double thumbs down for lying.

How do you determine whether or not a person or dating site is legitimate? [Arizona Republic]
