Coping with a Dark Day: Managing Your Depression

Depression is a medical diagnosis, not a character flaw. Its’ not something that you can just “snap out of”, it’s a chronic illness which will require treatment, and making changes to your life. So how do you help yourself to cope with depression? The Mayo Clinic says: First, cut back on your obligations. If you don’t have to go to that party, don’t.  Take care of yourself; eat well, get enough sleep. Spend time with friends and family who love you and make you feel better about yourself. Consider joining a support group, learn relaxation techniques and stress management skills. Above all, remember that living with depression is possible. If you fight back, you can and will regain your life!
