Diet's Impact on Depression

Diet's Impact on Depression

Why is it that we tend to underestimate how greatly what we eat affects how we feel? For example, a low-carb diet can be disastrous for some people dealing with depression. Sure, it might be great for losing weight, but some people have reported spiraling into the worst depression they’ve ever known. Is it possible to manage your depression treatment and eat what you want at the same time?

Yes! The key is individualization. We’re all different with unique hormone levels, food preferences and metabolisms. If you find that one diet (say a low-carb diet) causes you to suffer intense or more frequent mood swings, try adding in more elements from another diet (from the Mediterranean diet, for example). Mix and match your way to healthier living for your body and mind. And don’t forget to exercise regularly to help keep your depression (and physical health) in check.
