How do you stop the cycle of negative thinking?
Sometimes, that negative voice gets going and it's nearly impossible to get it to stop. How do you change your thoughts to something more positive?
I have found that swapping the negative thought for a positive one works well for me. The way I do that is to picture myself on a beautiful beach at sunset, I am the only one there, and I focus on the sounds that I would hear if I were there. I can hear the ocean, and the birds, the wind gently brushing my face. I look at the sunset on the horizon as it slowly sets and how pretty it is. I basically transfer my mind to a place where I can relax and not have to think about whatever is making me depressed at the time. Another one I use is pictureing my daughter. That almost always puts me in a better mood!! The only time it doesn't work is when she is playing so loudly that I can't blank her out:)!! I have had problems with depression for a long time... several miscarriages, failed relationships, and now being without a job and going through a divorce and becoming a single mom... I'm not a shrink, but I think I've been through enough crap in my life to at least be able to try and share my thoughts and ideas with someone else. Hopefully something I said helps :) Keep smiling and it will get better, I promise!!
