Romance 101
Remember those carefree high school days, when you flirted outrageously with everyone that crossed your path? It was so easy to get a date back then.
Apparently, it’s tougher for kids in Singapore, who are a little, um, socially awkward when it comes to meeting and mating. So the government has created a course called “Love Relations for Life: A Journey of Romance, Love and Sexuality.” The hope is that students will begin to place greater value on finding romance and that the population will boom. Currently, Singapore has one of the lowest fertility rates in the world and there is lingering concern that the population will not be able to maintain itself.
This experiment in social engineering could have been written by Aldous Huxley himself—it’s clear that Singapore’s government wants to encourage the best and the brightest to come together in order to create more of the same. How do you feel about the government playing a role in romance? [New York Times]
I think they may have some good advice. Certainly we are paying enough in welfare dollars because of unwanted pregnancy and broken relationships which lead to poverty level living in many young people. Also people should not be taxed more, or forced to live together unmarried because they are paying more for in taxes as a married couple. Perhaps tax incentives are more in order.
