Survey Says...

Although Aunt Suzy might be haunting you in your sleep—cooing in your ear to go find a suitable mate—don’t pay her any mind! Like your other single friends have told you: you’re not alone.

The first time you hear it, the phrase might be comforting. But after that? It’s just a nag. Try to look past the repetition to the truth of the statement—you really aren’t alone: 100 million adults in the United States are currently single, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. And if mom’s been worried that your lack of spouse will affect your work, shoo her concerns away. Singles make up nearly half of the U.S. work force, says the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

So don’t think that being single makes you any less powerful than a team of two. Unmarried individuals run a majority of households in the U.S (the Census Bureau sure knows alot about singles) and unmarried women are the biggest group of non-voters in the country. Politicians are aching for extra votes—look who’s in control now!

Accept being a part of this super-huge club! Revel in your solo status by watching "Single," a new documentary about the cultural shift toward putting off marriage and pursuing personal dreams (full disclosure: one of our staff was interviewed for the film.) It's a timely and well-researched look at why we don't partner up, and how we really feel about it. And if you want to find some romance, maybe you could watch it with someone and start a spirited discussion that could lead to more!
