Make Your Job a Dream Job

You may not have to leave your current employer to find your dream job. More companies are allowing their employees to transfer into different career tracks and follow their passions.

Companies are adopting this “transfer from within” policy in order to retain their workforce. Many realize that they need to keep their employees challenged and interested. Also, by changing the rules to keep their workers happy, companies are cultivating greater loyalty, which could help increase revenues and even further reduce turnover in the long-run.

Some companies like Verizon and IBM will even do a skills assessment for you and suggest what jobs might be better suited to your strong points.

The cons? Well, the company could expect more from you than you could provide, especially if you’re entering a career field that you’re not entirely familiar with. Also, you might not be entitled to the same salary.

Plus, part of your concept of your dream job may be that change of venue. [Wall Street Journal]
