MySpace Rockstar
From reality stars like Tila Tequila to musical stars like Sean Kingston, MySpace can be a great resource to help your career. So when we heard that the rock band Boston found their new lead singer through the networking site, we weren’t surprised.
When the band’s original lead singer, Brad Delp, committed suicide last year, superfan Tommy DeCarlo took it upon himself to apply for the job. He record himself singing one of the band’s songs, then uploaded the recording to his MySpace page in hopes of being able to perform at Boston’s tribute show. Unfortunately, he was turned down.
Tom Scholz, the founder of Boston, eventually stumbled upon DeCarlo’s recording. Impressed by how similar DeCarlo sounded to Delp, Scholz asked him to perform at the show and hired him soon after. DeCarlo is now living a dream; he went from a credit manager at Home Depot to a rock star—thanks to MySpace!
So when all else fails and no employer seems to be responding to your cover letter and resume, create a MySpace page and maybe you, too, will find your dream job. [CNET News]
