When I Grow Up...

When I Grow Up...

Childhood dreams do come true! Remember the days when you used to dream of being an astronaut or a princess? Well as a child, Greg Poppenhouse, a Goodyear blimp pilot, used to dream of becoming...a Goodyear blimp pilot.

Personally, we understand—an informal poll of our edit staff revealed childhood dreams of working for Disney, becoming a vet, being a stylist and a pro football player—so we're not one to sneeze at anyone else's wild fantasies! Poppenhouse’s unique dream came true when he saw an ad for a position as a mill operator for Goodyear. He figured that if he could get a foot in the door it would only be a matter of time until he landed his dream job as a Goodyear blimp pilot. Sooner or later, Poppenhouse was promoted to a quality-control position where he had access to all of the job openings throughout Goodyear. And when a blimp pilot position opened up, he jumped right on the chance. Poppenhouse’s experience as an army pilot gave him the upper hand, and he eventually started training for the blimp pilot position.

So as you see, childhood dreams do come true. It just takes some time and persistence. It's also a good reminder to put yourself in the path of greatness—even if the initial job isn't quite what you're looking for. Tell us about your childhood dream job,and how you're pursuing what you want today! [New York Post]
