Question:55 with paralegal degree and working at a clerical job.

I am 55 years old and have an Associates Degree in Paralegal Studies. I live in NWI and am currently only able to find a job doing clerical work. What can I do with a Paralegal Degree other then work for attorneys? Getting paid 12.00 hr. is not what I expected from an Associates Degree.

Answer:

I'm almost 58, have an Assoc in Business Admin and several certifications in Quality and am unemployed. Not because I didn't follow the rules where I worked or did something wrong - they wanted to reduce the salaried staff by 10%. I had my department functioning very smoothly and self-managing. Oops! 5 weeks now of looking for an employer! Offers to work part-time for $12 are not coming in because I am "over qualified for this position and you wouldn't be happy here". How does anyone know that I wouldn't be happy?
I'm getting very excited about an interview tomorrow at a home-improvement chain! One thing for sure, I won't have the stress that I had with the other jobs! One thing I learned with all my certifications - think outside the box! I don't have time to sit and wait for the cherries to come to me, I have to look for them and go after them. I don't have time to cry because the cherries I'm getting aren't the kind I wanted, I have to figure out how to make them useful to me! By the way - your working at a clerical job would be one of my preferred cherries so maybe you have someone's preferred job?
In life it's not a good idea to toss in the cards because you didn't get a royal straight on the deal - make the best hand out of the cards, drop a couple work with the rest and bluff til you win!

Answer:

This is a comment, I'm 53 and I have a degree diploma in Medical Billing and Coding and also continued on for my Associate degree. Still can't find anyone to hire me, and I have to work two jobs, 13 hours a day. When you find the answer please let me know, I'm very disgusted.
