How can I spend less of what I earn each week?
I had hoped to get a raise this year, but with the economic news it doesn't look like I'll be able to ask (and I doubt it will be offered). What are some things I can do to spend less each week?
First off -- why not still ask? I agree your employer will not offer, but if you think a raise is due -- ask for just a little. Your boss may have planned something bigger, but be delighted that he/she can give you something and make you happy. If it's out of the question, look at your transportation costs. Are there any ways to cut back (e.g., walk, carpool, take a bus, train or shuttle to the airport?). Also find free movies on the computer (I know you have one :) vs going to the theater, order two apps for dinner vs. a more expensive meal, don't cut the tags off your clothes until the first time you wear them (after a month if you haven't worn -- take back). Finally, maybe there is something valuable (but not sentimental) in your home that you can sell on eBay.
