No Big Deal?
Just one generation ago, divorce was considered taboo and married couples that split were believed to have "loose morals." However, times have changed and every year getting a divorce becomes more culturally acceptable. A new Gallup poll suggests that in just seven years, American acceptance of divorce has increased significantly.
Divorce tops a list of activities that respondents believe to be morally acceptable—70% felt it was OK, up from just 59% in 2001. Human cloning (11%), polygamy (8%) and extramarital affairs (7%) round out the bottom three.
While you might feel some negative energy from certain family and friends during your divorce process, it’s important to keep these numbers in mind. Because of the men and women who came before you, it’s now easier to find acceptance from those around you during a stressful divorce. [Gallup.com]
