Divorce by the Book

If there’s one thing we all love, it’s a great story—even if it’s about the pain of divorce . Two new memoirs chronicle the end of the relationship.

Suzanne Fenimore’s Split is a candid retelling of a woman’s sad and desperate attempts to get her husband back. When she cannot, she goes through what can only be described as the full stages of grief that are recognizable to anyone who has dealt with loss.

On the other hand, Theo Paula Nestor’s How to Sleep Alone in a King-Size Bed reads as more of a cautionary tale, one that reminds us you can’t know everything about the person next to you.

Both are heavy reads, but then divorce is a heavy topic. If you’re going through a split or have been divorced, tell us what book was helpful to you. We want to know! [USA Today]

The best book about divorce EVER is "Crazy Time" by Abigail Trafford. It's my divorce bible. There's a reason it's been in print for 25 years and sold 250,000 copies. Trafford is a journalist not a shrink, so she writes in a chatty, anecdotal, down to earth style. She helps you analyze the power balance in your marriage as a key to figuring out what went wrong. And she outlines the stages of recovery after divorce, especially the "crazy time" that we can all expect to go through. After reading this book I felt that someone actually understood what I was feeling and gave me hope that I would survive. Yay Trafford!!
