Take the Money and Run
We’re long past the days where divorce carries any kind of social stigma. But something that remains hush-hush is alimony—specifically, men receiving monthly payments from an ex-wife. In the last U.S. Census survey, 33% of all families reported that the woman was the primary earner in the family, meaning that on the heels of a split, a man may ask for financial support.
An article in the Wall Street Journal profiles a few men (no slouches themselves, it should be noted) who are receiving monthly checks from their exes and not ashamed of it in the least. The percentage of men receiving alimony has risen to 3.6%, up from 2.4% in the previous five years. Earners in their own right, these men simply want—as women would— to maintain the standard of living they did before the relationship ended. Do you think men should seek alimony? [Wall Street Journal]
