Question:he blackmails me with emails

My ex keeps breaking into my email account and putting things in there like it's me. He then print them off and uses them to say he's going to fight me for our kids. Whether the emails are just flirty with old friends or really bad stuff, I'm tired off it and should I be concerned. Can I go to jail bc he breaks into other people's email accounts and pretends it's me?

Answer:

That really stinks. I suppose you've tried changing your email account? It might be a bit inconvenient, but that may be one way of thwarting his efforts in the short term.

Certainly, if you have a lawyer you should be making him or her aware of this. It's important to document these types of activities.

If you're working with a social worker, same thing. Make sure they know what he is doing to make you look bad.

I'm not sure if tampering with email is a federal offense the way tampering with postal mail is, but you might want to report him to the ISP that maintains your email account. They may be able to do something to shut him down or give him a warning. I'm sure what he is going is a violation of their policies and they may be able to take action that will get him to stop.

Hang in there.
