Just In Case
No one likes to be on the delivering or receiving end of statements like, “Well, if something were to happen to me,” or “Well, I won’t always be around...” Nonetheless, there is some paperwork to organize with those statements in mind.
Erin on the Unclutterer blog writes a well-composed post about this same idea: she and her husband collect these papers into an “In case of…” file, which contains documents that family members will need access to, well, in case something happens! She personally lists items such as passwords, bills she pays, work-related details and provides a key to a safe that has other important papers.
While it may not be the most exciting organization task, it’s worth having emergency plans ready, if for any reason you have to spend a few days in the hospital or get stranded outside of the country. Close friends and relatives should know where the “In case of…” file is, and while you hope it never has to be used, there is some peace of mind knowing it exists. Do you have something similar in your household already? [Unclutterer]
