Celebrating Water

Water.

It's the most essential element for life, and many of us take it for granted. But for billions around the world, access to clean water is just a dream. Due to pollution and climate change, a reliable source of safe water is pretty hard to come by.

Look at these numbers:

  • 1.2 billion people around the world do not have access to safe drinking water.
  • Every 20 seconds, one child dies from a disease due to the lack of sanitation.
  • 5 billion people will be without a connection to public sewage by 2030.

We bring this up because March 22nd is World Water Day, as designated by the United Nations General Assembly in 1992. Do your part to help bring clean water to people in this country and around the world. There are a number of ways you can honor the day, from taking a shorter shower to making sure you don't pour pollutants down the drain. You can also write an email to your local representatives to express your concern for drinking water.

Going green isn't just about recycling and buying organic food. It's also about making sure that we protect and maintain the delicate ecosystem that we rely on for survival.
