Eco-Fur an Oxymoron?

File this in the bad idea department: One company, in the rush to belong to the going green trend, has started creating eco-friendly fur clothing made from a possum in New Zealand that has been destroying forests. What they didn’t realize is that people who care about the environment aren’t about to put fur coats on their backs.

Norsk Leather & Fur, the company that sells these furs, has not moved one item from this line. Though a reported 70 million of these possums are tearing up the natural vegetation in the country, that may not necessarily be an argument for killing small animals and making clothing out of them.

Do you think eco-fur is a step in the right direction or a violation of the principles of being eco-friendly? [Wall Street Journal]
