Recycling for Dollars

Imagine one day where you could actually be paid to recycle! That day is very close, if RecycleBank has anything to say about it.

Since 2004, RecycleBank has been enticing environmentally minded consumers to recycle as much as they can. In return they receive RecycleBank points. Think of them like frequent flier miles. A designated recycling company weighs the items that you want to recycle—either at a RecycleBank drop off location or at your home—and gives you points based on how much it weighs. Once you get a certain number of points, you can redeem those points for cash at stores like Origins, GNC, Petco, Target and more. The company allows you to make up to $35 RecycleBank dollars a month. How’s that for making recycling profitable?

So far, this program is available in certain cities in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Vermont, Massachusetts and New York, but the company does hope to gradually expand across the country.

Even if you don’t have this program in your community, it’s important that you continue to do your part to go green and recycle any items you can. [Time.com]
