Slow Food Movement
The upcoming holiday weekend focuses on a lot of positives: friends, family, picnicking, being outside and don’t forget the food! Home-cooked and grilled food, mostly. But preparing food at home has gone the way of the dinosaurs for some people because of the ease and perceived value of fast food. If you’ve seen “Super Size Me” or read Fast Food Nation or seen a handful of the many newspaper articles on the dangerous results of subsisting on fast food, you know the real story.
Luckily, the truth about fast food’s unhealthiness is becoming more widely known, and will be further helped with an event concurrent with Labor Day weekend in San Francisco. It’s called Slow Food Nation ’08: Come to the Table, an idea hatched from the mind of a culinary great, Alice Waters. In the organization’s words, it’s about coming together to “celebrate, learn and act to build a food system that is sustainable, just and delicious.”
