The Green TV Channel

The Discovery Channel has long been associated with slightly nerdy television programs that, if you’re under the age of 30, you refrain from mentioning because of the lack of cool factor. Perhaps now that will all change, as “Planet Green” will provide 24 hours of programming about everything green, so-called “eco-tainment.”

In addition to attracting viewers, the new channel will probably also have no trouble attracting advertisers, now that almost every company is interested in showing that they're going green and deliver messages about what they are doing to help the planet.

Part of the “Planet Green” game plan is to insert a few celebrities into the mix, such as Emeril Lagasse in an organic food show, and “Hollywood Green,” a show about eco-conscious celebrities.

Do you think the new channel will help green issues become more mainstream to the point of making a difference, or will this be more mindless TV-watching to most? [The New York Times]
