Oilman Finally Gets His Degree

Oilman Finally Gets His Degree

At 95-years-old, Kenneth Shepherd is finally graduating college as a member of the University of Missouri’s Class of 2008. Yes, we said 95-years-old!

It all started 71 years ago when Shepherd failed to graduate from the university because he couldn’t pass the required speech class. After taking the class three times over and failing, well, three times, the dean of the engineering school told him, “You need to get on with your life.” And that’s exactly what he did. Shepherd took a job with a Conoco seismographic team searching for oil in the southern plains. Today,  Shepherd is an oil tycoon with children and grandchildren.

As a Father’s Day gift, Shepherd’s daughter arranged for him to receive his degree. Shepherd had accumulated enough credits to graduate, but was just shy of that speech course. Since the speech course was no longer a graduation requirement, the school happily granted Shepherd his degree.

Shepherd is proof that no one is too old to attend and graduate college! [USA Today]
