The Littlest Loss

Losing a baby is one of the most painful losses imaginable, and the grief a parent feels is overwhelming. It can also be hard to explain the loss of a child to a sibling.

Two books by Pat Schwiebert aim to help grieving parents explain the loss of a baby to their other children. We Were Gonna Have a Baby, But We Had an Angel Instead is for families who were preparing for a birth but either miscarried or experienced a stillbirth. Someone Came Before You helps parents explain a lost sibling to a child who comes later. In both cases, keeping the memory of the lost family member alive can help the healing process for all involved.

While the books certainly won’t remove the pain of loss, they can help a family talk more openly, and help parents find the right words to share their feelings with their children. [GriefWatch]
