Finding Money

Have you ever received one of those letters in the mail that asks you to call in because you have some money waiting somewhere? It’s a legitimate service, but you shouldn’t pay someone to find money for you when you can do it for free!

The National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators can help you gather unclaimed funds. Almost $33 billion is just waiting to be claimed, according to the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators. The money comes from old payroll checks, safety deposit boxes, treasury bonds and the like. The FDIC  and Treasury Department are also good resources for uncovering “lost” money in your name.

Finding unclaimed funds is a bit like finding treasure while snorkeling—exciting, but unlikely. You’re probably going to come up empty-handed, but it never hurts to look. Meanwhile, you can still have more money by saving wisely and keeping good track of your spending! [CNN]
