What's Your Money Mojo?
It stands to reason that if our environment plays a role in our upbringing, attitudes, and beliefs then naturally, it would also play a role in what we think about money. According to Brent Kessel, financial advisor and author, the details of people's behaviors are different, but there are some similarities among certain groups of people.
He suggests that these archetypes are what shape our thoughts and attitudes towards money, and that the value of defining these archetypes—especially to ourselves—is that they can give us a basis for understanding how we got to the financial life we have today. He also says that we can achieve the financial life we most want by understanding where we are.
To that end, Forbes has provided an interactive quiz that will help pinpoint the archetype you most fit—from "saver" to "pleasure seeker" to "empire builder"- and gives some tips on how to change things if you're not happy with where you are.
You can take the quiz here.
When you finish the quiz, come back and tell us what you learned. Were you surprised by the results? Are you satisfied with where you are, or do you think you'd like to make some changes?
I'm an idealist, according to the quiz. Based on my answers, I think money is to be used for good and not evil, and is just a means to further my creative, spiritual and philanthropic endeavors. It probably also means I'll never be rich. Oh, well.
