Sexual Currency

Birds do it and bees do it, and apparently we do it too! Researchers at the University of Michigan say that we’re all using sex as currency to get the things we want and need. The phenomenon is known as “nuptial gifts” because for years, the male has often offered the female protection and resources in exchange for a little lovin’.

What makes the study interesting is that the behavior seems to be innate. Researchers looked at the patterns of affluent students and saw that even though they had everything they could possibly need, they still used sex as a bartering tool for everything from game tickets to help with their studies.

So should you use your wiles to get what you need? It can’t hurt, we suppose, but if you’re in a committed relationship sex probably isn’t your best bargaining tool. [Yahoo! News]
